Wales met Yugoslavia in Cardiff for their final match of the Euro 84 qualifying campaign knowing that victory would guarantee them a quarter final place. However despite a great performance by Wales against a tough nation they slipped up late on. Wales dominated the first half and had numerous goal scoring opportunities wasted, including a fine chance by Ian Rush. Wales continued to dominate the match in the second half and in the 54th minute, Robbie James gave the Welsh the lead. The Welsh slipped up when they allowed Bazdarevic to equalize with ten minutes remaining and the group was wide open once again.
