Wales 1-0 Austria
Date Played – September 1975

Wales required just one point from this qualification match to ensure qualification to the quarter finals of the 1976 European Championships. The only goal of the encounter came from the home fans favourite, 34 years old, Arfon Griffiths, the Wrexham forward, who scored the only goal of the match which in turn meant that Wales were the only British team to qualify for the last eight of the competition.

Yugoslavia 1-1 Wales
Date Played – June 1976

After going down 2-0 in the first leg, Wales needed a convincing victory to qualify for the semi finals. The Welsh found themselves up against it early on as Katalinski scored the first goal of the match for Yugoslavia with a well struck penalty, however Evans struck an equalizer for Wales and the match then developed in to a bad tempered affair. Few Welsh supporters threw beer cans on to the pitch and the match was nearly called off, however it finished 1-1 and Wales were out despite finishing off with a fine draw.
