Dave Bowen
Managerial period – 1964 – 1974

Bowen was a Welsh player, making his debut in a match against Yugoslavia in 1954. He started his managerial career as player manager of Northampton town in the year 1959 and left the club in 1967. While managing Northampton, he was in charge of the Welsh national football team, managing the side for ten years between 1964 and 1974. Wales narrowly failed to qualify for the 1968 and 1972 European Championships under his guidance.

Terry Yorath
Managerial period 1988 – 1993

Yorath started his managerial career in charge of Swansea City after joining the club in 1986. He was installed as the new Welsh football team manager in 1988 and after a string of indifferent results in 1989; they failed to qualify for the world cup. He nearly guided Wales in to Euro 92 as they embarked on a fine qualifying campaign that included a home win against Germany in May 1991. He left the managerial post at Wales in the year 1993 after failing to qualify for the 1994 world cup.

Bobby Gould
Managerial period: 1995 – 1999

After beginning his managerial career in charge at Wimbledon, he was named as the new manager of West Brom at the start of the 1991 – 1992 league season, he later on spent a year with Coventry City before being named as the new manger of Wales in 1995. He took charge of the side who just failed in searching for qualification in to the 1996 European Championships. After failing to qualify for the 1998 world cup finals, Gould left the post in 1999 and was installed manager of Cardiff City in the summer of 2000.

Mike Smith
Managerial period: 1974 – 1979
Smith was installed as the manager of Wales during the 1973 – 1974 season and spent five years in charge of the national football team, as they narrowly failed to qualify for the 1974 and 1978 world cup finals and the 1976 European championships. He left the post in 1979 and later went on to manage Hull City for three years, leaving Hull in 1982. He made history in becoming the first ever English born manager to take charge of the Welsh football team.

John Toshack
Managerial period: 1994 (One game), 2004 – present

Toshack started his managerial career with Swansea City between 1978 and 1984. He later on managed a host of European football clubs, including Real Madrid during the 1989 – 1990 season. He managed Deportivo de La Coruna between 1995 and 1997 and managed Real Madrid for a second time in 1999. He was reinstalled as the manager of Wales in 2004.

Mark Hughes
Managerial period: 1999 – 2004

After enjoying a fifteen year playing career for the Welsh national football team, starting in 1984, he was installed as the Welsh manager in 1999 and spent five years in charge at the club after failing to qualify for Euro 2000. He led the national team during the qualifying matches for the 2002 world cup finals and nearly helped them reach Euro 2004, defeating Italy at the Millennium stadium during the qualifying round. They could not overcome the Ukraine in the play offs. He is currently managing Blackburn Rovers and took the club to the top six in the premiership by the end of the 2005 – 2006 season, earning the club a place in the UEFA Cup.
